Montavilla Farmers Market
76th and SE Stark
Sundays 10am – 2pm
June to October
We finally made it to a Farmers Market this year. A quick bike ride away from our house brings us to Montavilla Farmers Market, in a gravel parking lot off 76th and Stark in Southeast. Nothing better than a beautiful sunday morning stroll through some of Portland’s finest grocers, farm stands, food carts, and meat purveyors. No where near the size of the Farmers Market downtown in the Park Blocks, Montavilla provides a slight refuge of the large market hustle and bustle. While plenty of people enjoy the offerings, it is a mellow way to get a sample of the essence of Farmers Markets in this city. Flower stalls, vegetable and fruit stands, a Lemonade guy, some quality Indian food, Olympic Provisions meat, Artisan cheese, Scoops Ice Cream, local grass fed beef…it is all represented. We just missed it the day we visited, but there was a cooking demo going on. Seems like being there early is the way to go. Banana Nick is not an early bird though, so we missed the cooking demo. There is ample bike parking and on-street parking in the neighborhoods surrounding the market. Montavilla has increasingly gotten cooler and cooler over the last few years, there is the Academy Theater, restaurants like Flying Pie Pizza, The Observatory, Ye Hala Lebanese food, and the Country Cat, and various boutique stores all around the market. So make an afternoon of it and check this area out, I am glad that we live so close to it.
Here are some pics from our time at the market last sunday….
